What Is Microblading?
Microblading is a manual permanent makeup technique designed to create individual hair-like strokes.
Instead of using a permanent makeup machine, the artist uses a handheld tool containing a row of very fine needles to create small incisions in the skin and deposit pigment.
The goal is to mimic the appearance of natural eyebrow hairs, particularly in areas where the natural brows are sparse.
What Do Microbladed Brows Look Like?
When freshly performed, microblading can create very crisp, defined hair strokes. However, permanent makeup should always be evaluated based on how it heals and ages, not only how it looks immediately after the appointment.

What Are Powder Brows?

Despite the name, Powder Brows do not necessarily have to look like heavy makeup.

What Do Powder Brows Look Like?
A soft Powder Brow can create subtle definition and fill areas where the natural brow appears sparse without relying on individual tattooed hair strokes.
Immediately after the procedure, the brows typically appear darker and more defined. As they heal, the color softens.
The final result should be evaluated after the healing process is complete—not immediately after the appointment.
What Are Nano Brows?
Nano Brows, sometimes called machine hairstrokes, use a permanent makeup machine and a very fine needle to create hair-like strokes.
The visual goal can be similar to microblading: creating the appearance of additional brow hairs.
The major difference is how those strokes are created.
Microblading uses a manual blade to create an incision in the skin, while Nano Brows use a machine-driven needle to implant pigment through controlled needle movements.
This allows an experienced artist to create delicate hairstroke patterns without using the traditional microblading cutting technique.
What Do Nano Brows Look Like?
Nano Brows are designed to blend with your existing eyebrow hairs.

Nano Brows: Hair strokes are created using a permanent makeup machine and a fine needle.

Both Powder Brows and Nano Brows are machine-based permanent makeup techniques, but they create different visual effects.

Which Brow Technique Is Best for Oily Skin?

Powder Brows are often a more suitable option for oily or combination skin because the technique doesn't depend on maintaining extremely fine individual strokes.

There is no single technique that is automatically best for everyone.
Which Technique Looks the Most Natural?
This depends on what natural means for your brows.
For someone with very sparse brows, carefully placed hairstrokes may create the most natural effect.
For someone who already has plenty of brow hair but wants more shape and definition, a soft Powder Brow may actually look more natural because it creates subtle density behind the existing hair.
Natural-looking permanent makeup isn't defined by one specific technique.
It comes from choosing the appropriate technique, pigment, shape, and saturation for the client's individual features.
What Is the Healing Process Like?
All permanent eyebrow procedures go through a healing process.
Immediately after treatment, the brows generally appear darker and more defined than the final result. As the skin heals, you may experience dryness, light flaking, or changes in the visible pigment.
The brows can also temporarily appear lighter or uneven during healing before the color settles.
Healing varies between individuals, so it is better to follow your artist's aftercare instructions and evaluate the brows at the appropriate healed stage rather than expecting everyone to heal within an exact number of days.
How Long Do Powder Brows, Nano Brows, and Microblading Last?
Permanent makeup fades gradually over time.
There isn't one exact lifespan that applies to every client. Longevity depends on several factors, including:

Color-boost appointments may eventually be recommended to refresh faded results.

What If You Already Have Old Microblading or Brow Tattoo?
If you already have permanent makeup, your previous pigment needs to be evaluated before new work is added.
Old pigment that is too dark, saturated, discolored, or outside the desired shape can affect what is possible with your new brows.
In some cases, adding more pigment isn't the best first step. Lightening or removal may be recommended before creating a new brow design.
This is another reason an individual consultation is important—especially if you've had multiple previous brow procedures.

Our decision to move away from traditional Microblading is based on our approach to permanent makeup as a long-term treatment, not simply how the brows look immediately after the appointment.
Microblading creates hairstrokes through small manual incisions in the skin. With repeated procedures, this can create more trauma to the treatment area, particularly when the technique is performed too deeply or repeatedly over existing strokes.
There is also another consideration: how those fine strokes age in the skin.
Microblading strokes that appear extremely crisp when fresh may soften, expand, or lose definition over time. This can be especially noticeable on oily or porous skin.
Because ART PM prioritizes healed results, skin integrity, and how permanent makeup will age over time, we have transitioned to machine-based brow techniques.

Powder Brows for clients who want soft shading, density, and definition.
Nano Brows for appropriate candidates who want delicate, natural-looking hairstrokes.
Rather than offering every available technique, we focus on the methods that best align with our approach to permanent makeup.
